By creating an account, accessing, or using PUB.co (the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”) and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

PUB.co is operated by Atomix LLC, a Colorado limited liability company (“we,” “us,” or “Atomix”). Pub.co is a tradename registered with the Colorado Secretary of State.

PUB.co is a set of tools for independent authors, operated by Atomix LLC.

Some of what you do here is private to you. You can write and organize manuscripts, keep notes and task lists, build character and place sheets, design print and promotional material, and export your work to standard formats. This work is private by default. It is not published, and it is not visible to other users, unless you choose to publish or share it.

Some of what you do here is public when you choose to publish it. You can build an author profile page and book pages, which appear at www.pub.co/<your-slug> once you publish them, and you can create share links that let specific people you invite view or edit specific work.

We also run services around the tools: a company blog and its newsletter, and the PUB.co Indie Fiction Awards, which has its own Official Rules.

When you set up your profile we can pre-fill it from public pages you point us at, such as your own website, your Amazon Author page, or your Goodreads profile. Section 7 explains exactly what that does and where automated processing is involved. Author pages and book pages carry affiliate links to retailers including Amazon; see section 8.

You must be at least 13 years old to use PUB.co. By using the Service you represent that you are old enough to form a binding contract under your local law.

We use a third-party authentication provider, Clerk, to manage sign-in. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You may not impersonate another person, create an account on behalf of someone else without their authorization, or claim the public identity of an author whose works you did not author.

You retain ownership of everything you create or upload here, and of anything we collect on your behalf when you set up your profile. That includes your manuscripts and chapters, notes, task lists, character and place sheets, designs, images, author bio, book descriptions and links. We call all of it “User Content”.

By submitting User Content you grant Atomix a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, back up, reproduce and display that content as reasonably necessary to operate the Service for you. This license exists so that we can run the product. It is limited to that purpose. For content you have not published or shared, “display” means displaying it back to you and to people you have specifically invited.

We do not sell your User Content, we do not licence it to anyone else, and we do not use it to train any AI model. The AI provider we send content to is contractually prohibited from training on it as well. Section 7 sets out the narrow cases where parts of your content are sent to a third party service in order to perform a function you asked for.

If you send us content as part of a bug report, a support request or a report about someone else's content, that is User Content too, and it carries a narrower license than the rest: we use it only to investigate and resolve that report, and we never publish it.

You represent that you have all rights necessary to grant that license, and that your User Content does not infringe any third party's rights or violate any law.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for unlawful purposes;
• Misrepresent your identity or affiliation;
• Upload or link to malicious content;
• Attempt to interfere with, probe, or reverse-engineer the Service;
• Use automated means to scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Service beyond what we make publicly available;
• Submit content that is obscene, defamatory, harassing, or that infringes intellectual property.

We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have violated these terms.

We are specific about this because our users care about it. Here is every place a third-party AI model is involved, what it receives, and why.

Setting up your profile. When you give us URLs for your own website, Amazon Author page or Goodreads profile, we fetch those public pages and send their text to Anthropic's API to pull out the facts: your name, your existing bio, your book titles, descriptions, identifiers and links. The model is instructed to copy your existing bio and book descriptions as they appear, and never to write, rewrite or embellish them. If a real bio is not present on the pages you gave us, you get an empty field to fill in yourself rather than an invented one. Extraction can still be wrong or incomplete, so review what appears before you publish it. The words on your published page are yours.

Profile photos and images. When you set a profile photo or add an image to your image library, we send that image to Anthropic's API to check two things: whether it is sexually explicit, and whether it is a photograph of a real person. Explicit images are refused and not stored. The person check is not facial recognition: it does not identify anyone, does not measure or store anything about a face, and produces only a yes or no that determines whether your profile counts as having a photo. We also run this check periodically over images already in your library.

Building character and place sheets from a manuscript. If you ask us to find the characters or places in a manuscript, the manuscript is read on our servers by our own software, not by a model. Once you confirm which characters or places to keep, we send Anthropic a short set of selected passages about each one, up to about a dozen sentences each, to fill in the sheet. We do not send the whole manuscript.

Importing a manuscript into the writing app. No AI model is involved. The file is parsed on our servers.

Blog comments. If we turn on automated comment screening, comment text is sent to a model to classify it. This affects the public company blog only.

Anthropic's terms prohibit them from training their models on content sent through their API, and we have not agreed to anything that changes that. Outside of the cases above, we do not send your manuscripts, notes, task lists or sheets to any AI service.

As an Amazon Associate, Atomix earns from qualifying purchases. Links to Amazon on your author page and book pages contain Amazon Associates affiliate tags, and Atomix may receive a commission when readers purchase via those links. Other retailers we add in the future may operate similar programs. This does not change the price the reader pays.

The Service, including its design, code, branding, “PUB.co” tradename, logos, and content (other than your User Content) are owned by Atomix and protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy or use them without our written permission, except as the Service functionally allows.

If you believe material on PUB.co infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent. The address and the information your notice must contain are at www.pub.co/copyright. We respond to complete notices, we remove or disable access to material where appropriate, and we accept counter notifications. We terminate the accounts of repeat infringers.

To report content that is not a copyright matter, for example impersonation, harassment, or a photograph of someone used without their permission, use the contact form and choose “Report content”. We review every report and we act on the ones that violate section 6.

The Service uses third parties to operate, including but not limited to Clerk (authentication), Supabase (database hosting), Anthropic (AI text generation), Vercel (application hosting), and the Amazon Associates Program. Use of those services may also be governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for content, products, or services on third-party sites we link to.

You may delete your PUB.co account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, are abandoned, or for any other reason in our reasonable discretion. Upon termination, your public pages may be removed.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that AI-generated content will be accurate.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ATOMIX, ITS OWNERS, OFFICERS, AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, OR DATA, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY UNDER THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100), OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold Atomix harmless from any claim arising out of your User Content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party right.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Exclusive venue for any action arising under these Terms lies in the state or federal courts located in Boulder County, Colorado, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We’ll update the effective date at the top and, for material changes, notify you via the Service or by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the new Terms.

PUB.co is operated by Atomix LLC (“Atomix,” “we,” or “us”), a Colorado limited liability company. “Pub.co” is a tradename registered with the Colorado Secretary of State. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use PUB.co, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

We collect five categories of information:

1. Account information: when you sign up, our authentication provider Clerk collects your email address, name (if provided by your social login), and OAuth identifiers. Clerk handles password storage and session tokens on our behalf; we never see your password.
2. Author profile data: when you set up your profile, we fetch and store information from the URLs you supply: your name, biographical text, book titles, descriptions, cover images, ISBN and ASIN identifiers, publication dates, and links. You can edit, add, or delete this content at any time from your dashboard.
3. The work you create: everything you write, upload or build in the apps: manuscripts and chapters, including drafts and revision history, notes, task lists, character and place sheets, designs, and images you upload to your libraries. This content is private to your account. It is not published, and no other user can see it, unless you publish it or share it with someone. You can edit or delete any of it at any time.
4. Usage information: our hosting provider (Vercel) and our authentication provider (Clerk) collect standard logs and cookies, including IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps. We also keep a small security log of our own: when an account's role or status changes, we record what changed, who changed it, when, and the IP address the change came from. We use all of this to operate, secure and improve the Service. See “Data retention” for how long we keep it.
5. Problem reports: if you send us a bug report, a question or a report about someone else's content, we receive what you wrote and, attached to it, the page you were on, your browser and screen size, the last few pages you visited in that session, and any error messages your browser recorded. You can see all of it before you send, and you can choose not to attach the error messages. None of it leaves your browser unless you press send. If you are signed in we also record which account sent it. You do not need an account to send us a report.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

Some people give us information without ever creating an account. If that is you, here is what we hold.

• You were invited to view or edit an author's work: we hold the email address the author gave us and the record of the invitation, so the link works when you open it.
• You subscribed to the PUB.co blog newsletter: we hold your email address and, so that we can run the newsletter, a record of which emails were sent to you and whether they were opened or clicked. Every email has a one click unsubscribe. If you unsubscribe we keep your address on a suppression list permanently, and only so that we never email you again by mistake.
• You joined a waiting list: we hold your email address and which app you asked about.
• You used the contact form: we hold what you sent us and your reply address.
• You entered or sponsored the PUB.co Indie Fiction Awards: we hold your entry and the details required by the Official Rules.
• You commented on the blog: we hold your comment and the name and address you gave.

You have the same rights over this information as an account holder does, and you do not need an account to use them. Use the contact form and choose “Legal”.

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate, maintain, and secure PUB.co;
• Build and display your public author profile and book pages;
• Authenticate you when you sign in;
• Pull the facts for your profile out of public pages you point us at, without writing your bio or your book descriptions for you;
• Communicate with you about your account, the Service, or beta updates;
• Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers acting on our behalf:

• Clerk: authentication and identity. See clerk.com/privacy.
• Supabase: database hosting for your author and book records. See supabase.com/privacy.
• Anthropic: AI generation. The text content from the URLs you supply is sent to Anthropic’s API for processing. See anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
• Vercel: application + edge hosting and logs. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
• Amazon Associates: when a visitor clicks one of our Amazon affiliate links, Amazon may set its own cookies and track the click. We receive aggregate referral information from Amazon.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, to protect rights, or in connection with a business transaction.

We use first-party and third-party cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in (Clerk session cookies), to operate the Service, and to track Amazon affiliate clicks (Amazon’s own cookies). Most browsers let you control cookies in their settings.

We do not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell or share anything for advertising.

Our blog newsletter does measure whether an email was opened and whether its links were clicked, which is how we tell whether anyone wants it. We do this ourselves rather than handing it to a third party: the emails contain a small invisible image and their links pass through our own site before continuing to the article. If you would rather not be counted, most email apps can block remote images, and every newsletter carries a one click unsubscribe.

The content on your author profile and book pages is public by design: anyone with the URL can view it, and search engines may index it. Do not place private information in your public profile.

You have the right to:

• Access the information we hold about you;
• Correct inaccurate information via the dashboard;
• Delete your account and everything in it, at any time, from your account settings. You do not need to ask us;
• Ask for a copy of your data. There is a “Download my data” button in your account settings that gives you your profile and your book details as a file. Your manuscripts export as documents from the writing app whenever you like. For anything else, use the contact form and we will send it to you;
• Opt out of non-essential communications.

Residents of California, the EEA, the UK, and other regions may have additional rights under local law. Use the contact form to exercise them.

We keep your data while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete your author profile and book records from our active database within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

We protect your data with industry-standard measures, including HTTPS in transit, row-level security on the database, scoped service credentials, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; please report suspected vulnerabilities via our contact form.

If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and any regulator we are required to tell, without undue delay.

We operate primarily from the United States. If you access PUB.co from outside the United States, your information may be transferred, stored, and processed in the U.S. or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.

We may update this Policy. We’ll update the effective date at the top and, for material changes, notify you via the Service or by email.
